NWCC Southwest Power Pool Workshop: The NWCC Transmission Workshop is sponsoring its first Transmission Workshop for the SPP region. The meeting is October 25-26th in Little Rock, AR. Registration is open to all interested parties, and is online at www.nationalwind.org. NWCC Wildlife Research Meeting V: On November 3-4th, the NWCC Wildlife Workgroup is sponsoring its fifth research workshop on wildlife issues. The agenda includes: bats, Altamont pass, habitat impacts, migration, tools and risk assessment. The meeting is open to all interested parties and will take place in Lansdowne, VA at the National Conference Center. NEWS YOU CAN USE Developing Methods to Reduce Bird Mortality in the Altamont Pass Wind Resource Area (CEC Publication # 500-04-052) is now available at: http://www.energy.ca.gov/pier/energy/energy_reports.html. UCS Analysis on Effects of National Renewable Portfolio Standard: According to the Union of Concerned Scientists analysis, “a 20% Renewable Energy Standard would save consumers $49 billion and produce 355,000 jobs in U.S”. Interconnection Task Force Report from IOWA: Click here, for a draft report prepared by the IOWA DNR on issues involving transmission interconnection of renewable energy sources. Electricity Transmission: A Primer: This document is a work product of the National Council on Electricity Policy (a joint project of NCSL, NASEO, NARUC and NGA). Wildlife: The authors are working with a few workgroup members to finalize language on the Wind Interaction and Bird and Bat Fact Sheet. The document will then be sent to the NWCC Members for consensus. The planning group for NWCC Wildlife Research Meeting V has been successful in recruiting expert speakers for the meeting. The workgroup will also hold a follow-up workgroup meeting on November 5th at the RESOLVE office to debrief the workshop and discuss next steps. |

Green Markets and Credit Trading: The consensus REC Tracking System Design Principles and the resource document REC Tracking System Design Guide have been mailed to NWCC Members and Credit Trading Workgroup interested parties. Individual members of the workgroup are working on proposals to continue work on green power…stay tuned. |

Economic Development: The resource documents, Economic Development Results Brief and Methodology Brief have been mailed to the NWCC members and workgroup interested parties. Instead of subcontracting the NWCC Quarterly Economic Development Briefings, they will be produced in house by RESOLVE staff. The first briefing will take place this fall. |

Siting:
The siting workgroup is continuing its work with BBC Research and Consulting on siting case studies focusing on community views. The first round of sites, those that have been developed, will be reviewed this month. The workgroup will also be reviewing four or five sites to recommend to BBC for the second round of sites that have not been developed due to opposition from local communities. |

Transmission:
The Transmission Workgroup is busy planning the October 25-26th SPP TM Meeting in Little Rock, AR and the Western Transmission Workshop for January 25-26th in Sacramento, CA. The Bi-Monthly RTO Briefing by Steve Wiese is scheduled for September 21st at 2:00 pm ET. The brief will be sent to interested parties prior to the call.
