DOE and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) have issued a Request for Information (RFI) to gather public opinion on a potential environmental research initiative to inform the understanding of offshore wind energy development.
The research initiative, taking place over the next two to five years during the construction and operation of offshore wind facilities, would help guide future siting and permitting procedures.
The proposed areas of focus are
1) the evaluation of current monitoring technologies and techniques at facilities, and
2) the measurement of construction impacts on the surrounding environment.
Respondents are encouraged to both comment on this approach generally, and to answer questions from a proposed list to highlight areas of greatest concern or interest.
