July 25, 2001 - Wind Energy Workshop
July 26, 2001 - Wind Forum
Century House Hotel
Albany, New York
You are invited to participate in an
upcoming workshop and forum on opportunities and challenges to wind
development in New York and Pennsylvania to take place July 25-26, 2001 in
Albany, New York. The event is being coordinated by the New York and
Pennsylvania Wind Forum Planning Committee of the National Wind
Coordinating Committee (NWCC) and the New York State Energy Research and
Development Authority (NYSERDA).
The NWCC identifies issues that affect the
use of wind power, establishes dialogue among key stakeholders, and
catalyzes activities to support the development of an environmentally,
economically, and politically sustainable commercial market for wind
power. Formed in 1994, the NWCC is a collaborative endeavor that includes
representatives from electric utilities and their support organizations;
state legislatures; state utility commissions; consumer advocacy offices;
wind equipment suppliers and developers; green power marketers;
environmental organizations; and local, regional, tribal, state, and
federal agencies. The members of the Wind Forum Planning Committee are
representative stakeholders from the New York and Pennsylvania region.
July 25 (1:30 - 6:00 PM)
- Wind Energy Workshop
This workshop takes the form of a half-day primer scheduled for the
afternoon of July 25 (the day before the forum) for the purpose of
providing a technical orientation on modern practices for wind energy
development. The workshop seeks to address the needs and concerns of state
and local government officials, representatives from the agricultural
sector, as well as for those who would like an in-depth introduction to
the material that will be presented and discussed at the forum on the
26th. The workshop will address regional wind resources and site
assessment, provide an overview of large- and small-scale wind turbine
technologies and their uses, review economics and environmental issues,
and provide a roundtable to discuss the opportunities for farming
communities.
Workshop Purpose
- To provide a technical orientation on
modern practices for wind energy development.
- To address opportunities and challenges
for wind energy to promote economic development in agricultural areas.
July 26 (8:30 AM - 5:00
PM) - Wind Forum
The forum will reinforce the sense that wind can provide significant
energy, environmental and economic benefits to the region and identify key
obstacles standing in the way of achieving broad enabling energy policy.
The event will foster increased public and private stakeholder interaction
and participants will be able to brainstorm on approaches to removing or
otherwise overcoming obstacles to wind development.
Participants will learn about the obstacles
of moving wind energy from development to market and options to overcome
these barriers through the perspective of wind experts on financial,
development, policy, and marketing issues.
The forum is for local and state political
authorities, regulators, electric utilities, community leaders, farm
representatives, businesses, financial institutions, wind industry
representatives, state agency decision-makers, individuals, and the press.
Your participation is important and we hope you can attend.
